I have had a lot of thoughts in recent weeks about the September 11th, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon as well as the crash near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. My heart has gone out to the all of the innocent people who lost their lives in these events. And the loss of property has been so enormous that it boggles my mind.
But the excessive hatred that has been displayed by almost everyone has deeply disturbed me. How can anyone hate another of God's human beings to such an extent is beyond me? And don't tell me Osama bin Laden is not a child of God but is a child of Satan. That argument just doesn't hold water.
Jesus very plainly told us that we were to forgive our enemies as God has forgiven us. If we can't do that we have no right to expect forgiveness. I think that is put very plainly and cannot be denied!
I have heard people say "I can forgive, but I cannot forget." That, dear friends, is not forgiveness!
Jesus said, "For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."
(Matthew 6:14. 15 NIV)
And every time we pray the Lord's Prayer, we pray, "Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.".
And again Jesus said, "You have heard that it was said. 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who per- secute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?...Be perfect, there- fore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."
(Matthew 5:45.48 NIV)
And still again Jesus said "You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you: Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to him who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you."
(Matthew 5:38-42 NIV)

HOW CAN WE IGNORE THESE STATEMENTS OF JESUS? I INVITE YOU TO GIVE ME YOUR COMMENTS IN MY GUEST BOOK. THANK YOU. Earl J Prignitz
